MARKETING TRAINING
In the chain of making rural women financially independent, it is necessary for them to sell their products themselves. Hence, they learn various aspects of marketing during training like communicating with buyers, negotiation, technical knowledge, transactions etc. GVCS has proudly trained over 2000 rural women and today, the illiterate rural women are traveling across the nation and selling their products themselves.
AWARENESS WORKSHOP
Higher suicidal attempts among rural women, higher illiteracy rate, female foeticide, prevailing child marriage etc. has bounded organization to run the awareness workshops regularly. Workshops like women right's awareness, human rights, importance of education, digital literacy programmes, prohibition of child marriage along with our regular program of Income generation is helping rural women in deciding their own fate rather than depending on others.
SOLAR LIGHT DISTRIBUTION
We used to see the circumstances being faced by people of this desert region when there were no electricity, no water available at the rural houses. They had to travel miles to fetch water from a well. Similarly, they had to do household work in dark from which their eyes gets affected.
GVCS initiated this campaign of distributing solar lights to more than 5000 houses in various villages of Barmer district which gradually improved the education status and helped children to study. It has also helped rural women to work after sunset
STITCHING MACHINE DISTRIBUTION
Gramin Vikas Evam Chetna Sansthan has distributed more than 3000 stitching machines to encourage rural women for being independent. They can start their home-based business by stitching the clothes of near-by houses and earn their income.
This tool can initiate their perspective of being an entrepreneurs in their own best way.
SKILL UP-GRADATION TRAINING
Since past years, the applique craft was on the verge of extinction due to the poor skill of women artisans. Due to unfair wages, artisans were working without taking care of quality of craft. When organization came into existence, the major challenge was to train each of them in their skills in order to fight for fair wages and extend their approach to the export market.
GVCS proudly states that it has trained more than 11,000 rural women so far and is committed to train all the other rural women to make them independent and self-sufficient.
STITCHING TRAINING
When the president of the organization, herself initiated this work, she was doing the embellishment on the fabrics with the needle and thread but she did not have stitching machine to make a finish product. Ruma Devi's struggle has directed GVCS to train rural women in stitching skills so that they can stitch the clothes of near-by houses and of herself to earn and save money respectively.
GVCS has provided stitching training to more than 1000 rural women who have become self-dependent now.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP
The rural women artisans has always been working with traditional designs which slowed down the demand of applique craft products in the market. The need of various design development were observed. Hence, the artisans were provided trainings and new product ranges were launched in new fabrics which increased the craze of applique craft products again in the market.
More than 500 master artisans are well trained and are able to work with any kind of fabric, do the sampling and launch it in masses.
ART& CRAFT PROMOTION INITIATIVES
FASHION SHOWS
During the innovatory phase of craft products, a campaign was raised to promote the artisans and their craft through the ramps of fashion shows. The illiterate rural women have now stepped out of the boundaries of their houses victimized by prevailing 'Parda Pratha'. The ramp walk of artisans with models have got the artisans recognized as designers and provided them identity worldwide.
This mission of Ruma Devi has walked more than 30 fashion shows worldwide.
CELEBRITY ATTRACTION
During the invitation of Ruma Devi at Kaun Banega Crorepati, she never stepped behind to promote her art & craft at such platforms. In the presence of famous actor Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, actress Sonakshi Sinha and celebrity Poonam Sinha, she showcased one of best artworks and stolen the spotlight to the work of artisans.
INNOVATION
Ruma Devi is known as International Fashion Designer due to her innovations in traditional craft practices. Her innovations has not only limited to the field activities but contributed the fashion industry as well. She designed new product ranges in the craft which amazed the famous designers in the industry. These innovation initiated reverse migration and convinced famous designers to visit Barmer and get their collections ready from Barmer.
FOLK SONGS & MUSIC PRESERVATION
The library of Gramin Vikas Evam Chetna Sansthan has more than 5000 tape recordings of various folk artists. More than 50% cassettes is already destroyed due to old techniques.
The organization is independently digitalizing the recordings of folk singers and also recording the Gaayan Shaili of folk singers who are alive to preserve the Veena Gaayan, Vaanis of Kabir & Meera, Harjas Gaayan etc.

In 2010, Ruma Devi, the president of the organization herself initiated the series of exhibition for the first time nationwide. She traveled city to city in search for the direct market and started selling the craft products herself into the market which connected the craft products of artisans directly to the market without middlemen.
By then, the artisans associated with GVCS are traveling across the nation and participating in exhibitions and selling their craft products themselves. The rural women who never crossed the boundaries of their houses in their entire life are today traveling confidently in mega cities. Our artisans have participated more than 100 exhibitions across nation.

EYE SCREENING CAMPS
People living far away from cities and living in rural areas face a lot of difficulties in solving eye related problems. Rural people are often unable to afford eye checkups or treatment due to long distances and economic weakness. To remedy such situation, GVCS conducted door yo door eye screening campaign in rural areas of Barmer, thereby making it easier for the rural population to reach clinics and doctors. GVCS got success in reaching most inaccessible areas of the district and conducted more than 20,000 OPDs and distributed spectacles to needy people covering 80+ villages.
COVID AWARENESS PROGRAM
During the COVID times, the inadequate medical facilities of Barmer region insisted Gramin Vikas Evam Chetna Sansthan to take the strong steps.
GVCS decided to organize door to door health camps with mobile health van and provide free consultation and basic medicinal facilities near their houses. In the first phase, GVCS aims to cover 20,000 OPDs from 100+ villages of Barmer district.
HEALTH CAMP
Recognizing the need of timely healthcare after the COVID-19 pandemic, GVCS decided to campaign the healthcare at every village of Barmer. From this thought, GVCS initiated the medical mobile health camp at doorsteps of rural communities.
Covering more than 25,000 rural beneficiaries, we have reached more than 100 villages to provide healthcare.
AKSHARA - SCHOLARSHIP
Ruma Devi inspired by her low education and had to drop out from school in class 8th, she is determined to not let any other student of Barmer region drop out of school with financial constraints.
Every year 50 students hailing from rural region of Barmer will be provided scholarship of Rs.25000/year. The scholarship has a community-centric and need based approach and will be provided to the students from the sectors of Education, Art & Craft, Sports.
CRAFT WORKSHOPS/ INTERNSHIPS
Ruma Devi has conducted craft workshops in fashion institutions worldwide starting from NIFT, Delhi to Harvard University, USA. The students of the institution also applies for Internship program at Crafts Center, Barmer to work closely with artisans. When a student in her/his juvenile phase starts learning from ground level, there are more opportunities for artisans as well as students to contribute more & more towards craft development.
DIGITAL LITERACY TRAINING
During pandemic, the livelihoods of artisans came to a halt. The need of digital literacy was observed to connect the artisans to the world and their customers.
300+ artisans have provided digital literacy training and 225+ artisans/community leaders have provided smart phones.
MASK DISTRIBUTION
More than 1,00,000 cloth masks distributed to the people involved in emergency services like police, medical staff, shopkeepers, vegetable vendors etc and general public.
OXYGEN CYLINDER DISTRIBUTION
GVCS distributed 300 oxygen cylinders within 20 days on the letter of CMHO, Barmer and the vehicle travelled directly from Mumbai to Barmer.
LIFE SAVIOR INJECTIONS
During the 2nd wave, there was a shortage of injections in every hospital. We provided 5500 injections in total which included Enaxoparin, Methyl Prednisolon, Pipracilin, Cefoperazone etc within 48 hours of request from district administration.
SANITIZATION KITS DISTRIBUTION
GVCS volunteers spread out awareness of Covid-19 and made 16,500 covid warriors. The sanitization kit included 5 masks, bathing soap, handwashing soap distributed at non-financial support in association with Vision Spring.
SPORTS COMPLEX
GVCS is working towards constructing Smt. Rumadevi Smt. Sugnidevi Sports Complex at Barmer. We have already put up the foundation stone for its construction on the land of stadium.
Through this sports complex, GVCS is committed to build a platform to grow and nurture our sports players.
